C.E. #1
On March 13, 2013 our new pope, Jorge Mario Bergoglio now known as Pope Francis, was elected. Thousands of people awaited anxiously outside the Vatican in hopes of spotting the new Catholic pope. Jorge Mario Bergoglio was a Cardinal of Argentina before elected to be pope. He has many views on society and religion and is ready to make a change in the world.
This impacted the community because Catholics all around the world look up to the pope as a role model. He impacts so many lives and determines what many people believe in. Determining things that are right and wrong in the church's eyes.
My reaction to this was that I was in shock because out of all the people in the running for pope that he was chosen. The press was saying that the Church needed a younger pope with new ideas to change the church in better ways but in the end an older pope was chosen. Jorge Mario Bergoglio is seventy six and will still be a great pope.

current event #9
This current event is about the recent amount of shark sightings in the South Florida beaches. Life guards say that there is usual migration similar to this during this time of season but they have never seen so many like this before. They have taken precaution and have been warning future spring breakers to stay out of the water when they say to.
The community impact of this is that some people say thats its just what you get for living in south florida but it also brings danger. Lifeguards have been warned to take as much precaution as they can but they cannot stop this from happening. Also, people that go to public beaches have a better chance of attack because there are no lifeguards on public beaches. It restricts many people from going in the water now because of real precaution or just the simple thought of fear.
My reaction to this was exactly that, fear. One of my biggest fears are sharks and this makes it even worse knowing that they are so close. Even though we have lifeguards, they cannot control the actions of the sharks.

current event #8
This current event is about a tragic killing at the California animal zoo for exotic large cats. A newly employed intern had always been fascinated in large animals like these since childhood and was very excited about her new job. Unfortunately she preceded to enter the lion of four years of age's cage and was mauled by the lion. She was not supposed to be in the lions habit and was killed at the scene because of the lack of workers near by.
This affected the community in many ways. It hurt the reputation of the well known animal zoo. The zoo was inspected many times before the incident and was rated to be well kept. Many of the workers and even the owner were taken back and heartbroken at the news of what happened. They lost a well loved employee and were shocked of how this could've happened.
My reaction to this was that with the right rules and regulations this would have never happened. If she would've known that you were not supposed to enter, her life would've been saved. Even if there was a chance of more employees in the area like they are supposed to be someone could have saved her.
